Sustainability Report 2021

As the impacts of climate change are increasingly being felt around the world, we all understand our responsibility to act. At IGO we are focused on creating a better planet for future generations by discovering, developing and delivering products critical to clean energy. Climate change considerations are fully integrated into our strategic and operational decision making. IGO acknowledges the scientific consensus of the changing global climate and accepts the position expressed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that continued emission of greenhouse gases will cause further global warming and that warming above 2 o C, relative to the pre-industrial period, could lead to catastrophic economic and social consequences. The intent of the Paris Agreement is to limit global warming to less than 2 o C above pre-industrial levels. We continue to see changing policy and sentiment, including IPCC updates stating that limiting global warming to 2 o C may avoid some material climate change impacts, however, the consequences will be significantly worse than if global warming can be limited to 1.5 o C. There will be significant benefits to ecosystems, economies and society by working together towards a target of 1.5 o C. As a Company, we acknowledge the recommendations of the IPCC and want to be part of the solution and work together to limit climate change to 1.5 o C. If we don’t curb emissions, and temperatures continue to rise, science predicts that the results will be catastrophic.
